Only bplus would turn a joke into a puzzle! ;-)) This is like hang man only with a bunch more words (you will need them) coded behind other letters. Pretty sure you can figure it out when you play, the biggest clue is the lines are short jokes. Attachments:Coded Phrase Puzzle.zip (659.76 KB)

I think there may be a problem.... Like Hangman? Looking at the code I would say more like a Cryptogram. Either way is a cool idea...

Sorry johnno56 , I forgot to check the case for the filename, either change the 2 file names in code to "50 oneliners.txt" (lines 19 and 21) or change the filename to "50 Oneliners.txt", just the O in Oneliners, I think (or change both to your own preference). What you are seeing is the default word "Match?" coded up for you to guess because your Linux couldn't find the file to get the joke lines from.

Oh another really big helpful hint, you know you have the right letter when a capital is replaced by lower case; it matched the lower case in the answer.

Cool... It was more efficient to change the filename rather than the two filename references.... Pony.. Horse... Tell me you copied these phrases... lol

Cool... It was more efficient to change the filename rather than the two filename references.... Pony.. Horse... Tell me you copied these phrases... lol What? you don't think I could write 50 jokes in an hour or 2? Yeah, I copied them and listed their source at the bottom of the txt file, they came from Best Life an on-line magazine I think. Tell me, were you able to figure out how to play Jaze Cryptogram? When testing my version I quickly determined you had to leave the coded part alone so you could see the positions of the original coded letters. I just looked up Cryptogram puzzles on Internet (our newspaper doesn't have them, but does have Sudoku, 2 crosswords and a word scrambler that has letters circle in answers to solve the caption to a cartoon that goes with the puzzle (that you also have to unscramble). All the cryptogram puzzles I saw just now did have the original coded phrase and under it squares to try out your guesses. When I tried many of Jaze "hints" I see he wasn't fixing the Letter choices at the bottom of the screen so things for me got doubly confusing (not so hard to do). Also I think if you try x's as s's and then say s's as n's that his code changes all the s's to n's including the x's that were correctly change to s, yikes! I think that is what is happening as I saw it happening in his buggy code that was printing more and more lines. Ha! plus I got quickly into the habit of clicking the letter I wanted to change from my version which of course didn't work for Jaze code.
